One of the biggest problems when losing weight is giving up on your old bad habits. We already discussed about how to give up fast food, we already discussed a little bit about the effects of alcohol on weight loss, it’s time we have a talk about soda.
Sodas are probably the worst of all temptations. Sugary, fizzy drinks are full of calories, sugars and not to mention so many ingredients you probably can’t even pronounce.
Did you know that a 2 liter bottle of coke has 800 calories? How many times did you finish a whole bottle in one day?

Also, according to the label, it contains a lot of weird stuff, including that famous secret ingredient that isn’t even listed. I’m starting to think there’s a pretty odd reason they’re keeping it secret
Let’s take another soda to examine. Say, any cheap soda available on the market. With everyone trying to be frugal these days, saving money on soda is something a lot of people do. I see them in the supermarkets, families going for the cheap drinks instead of the famous brands, because a 2 liter bottle costs less than $1. Convenient, right?
Wrong! You’re really not doing yourself any favors if you buy cheap fizzy drinks. You’re actually slowly killing yourself. Have you ever looked at the label? All of them contain “natural flavors” (a.k.a. “it can be anything in here”) and artificial color (because you can’t get orange colored soda if it has no real oranges in it), preservatives and god knows what else. Not to mention the calorie count if extremely high, close to the Coke bottle or worse.
Of course, if you already knew all that, I’m sorry for boring you with the details I’m sure you’re wondering how the hell do you give up on soda?
The trick is pretty simple.
Saying that you should switch to water and never drink sodas again, ever, is just stupid. So, what I did and it worked, is I replaces the soda with something else.
2. Replace sodas with home made tea
One of the ‘perks’ of drinking soda is the sweet taste, right? Well, why not try making some tea at home and drink it instead of those fizzy drinks?
I usually make 2-3 liters of tea at a time, store it in bottles and put it in the fridge to keep it cool.
As for the taste, I use different tea bags each time. I mix 2 mint teabags with raspberry tea, or wild berries with chamomile. It really doesn’t matter as long as it’s tasty and ice cold (tastes like store bought tea, but it’s healthier as it doesn’t contain all sorts of crappy ingredients)
To sweeten the tea, you can use sugar, but not a lot if you’re trying to lose weight, or honey or stevia. I’d go for the honey, it’s healthy and gives the tea a better taste.
3. Replace sodas with fresh squeezed juice
Another great method to cut down on sodas is to squeeze your own juice at home. Grab an extra bag of oranges next time you go shopping, or grep-fruit or berries… buy whatever you like, as long as you can squeeze it into juice.
Of course, there are many who say that fresh squeezed juice from natural fruit is full in sugars and calories. But if you drink a glass of natural juice in the morning, you’ll get a great dose of nutrients as you start your day. Plus, the sugars that fruit contain are not THAT bad for you, it’s fruit, not chemicals!
4. Drink more mineral water
If you miss the fizzy part from your drinks, simply try to convince yourself water is better. Mineral water is great, I drink it all the time. It’s healthy, it’s great for weight loss and it’s also a lot cheaper than soda!
If you don’t like the part when water has no taste, try adding some fruit to it, make yourself some flavored water. Give it a try, you might just say bye-bye forever to those sodas!
