Venice canals: without water

Venice canals "without water"

The Italian city of Venice is famous for its many canals and bridges. Built along the shores of the Adriatic Sea, the canals were used for protection, sheltering the city from the mainland, and transporting within the city.

1- How the canals of Venice became without water?

Unusually low water levels in the Venetian canals. Just months after the heavy floods that swept through the city. Images circulating from The Italian City of Venice surprised the entire world with a marked drop in the level of its canals, reaching a complete drought point for the second time in 3 years.

Images posted on social media are a rare sight, with wooden boats appearing in muddy land instead of the running water people used to see in the city.

2- What is the reason for the drying of the canals of Venice?

The dryness of the canals is due to low tides and low rainfall. The water level in the Venetian channels has reached about 19 inches below sea level, with a further decline expected.

This decline is caused by a phenomenon called "snow moon", which is the full moon in February, where it causes the largest tidal fluctuations in Venice.

It is the result of a high-pressure weather system throughout Italy, which is unlikely to form clouds and is less likely to bring rain to fill the canals.

On the beach: Venice's water transport has become useless after canal water levels dropped to unusually low levels, with meteorologists predicting that the tide will drop even to low depths on Monday.
