Many people have a false impression of the UK, thinking it’s all pomp and ceremony, a little stuck up, and people only drink tea; well, I’m here to tell you these people are wrong!
I am well placed to talk about this because I am from the UK, England to be specific, and I don’t even like tea, so that throws that myth out of the water!
There is so much to see and do in the UK that it’s hard to pinpoint specific details. It really all depends on your interests, but there are certain areas that are must-visits for anyone heading over for the first time. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Glastonbury
Iconic and a must do for any music fan visiting during the summer. Tickets are like gold-dust so make sure you book well ahead of time, but the line-up announcement always sends thrills through the music fan world, and even if you’re not a fan of who is playing, the experience is always second to none. Think mud, think camping, and think a seriously good time. This year’s festival takes place from 24-28 June.
2. We do love to be beside the seaside
The English seaside in particular is an experience like no other, and there are countless seaside towns to visit. Check the weather ahead of time, because let’s face it, this can be unpredictable, even in summer, but Blackpool is a famous spot to head, with a funfair to thrill those adrenaline seekers. Alternatively, the beautiful and wild beaches of Cornwall are fantastic for anyone who loves surfing and raw beauty. Grab your bucket and spade, and eat fish and chips!
3. Royal Ascot
Horse racing is part of UK heritage and the racing calendar is packed with events. One in particular which is extremely popular and a real iconic British experience, is Royal Ascot. Again, tickets sell out fast, but if you do manage to grab one, you’re in for a treat. The Gold Cup is the big race during the event, when fashion and prestige takes centre stage.
4. London sightseeing
London is an iconic sightseeing city, and because of the sheer number of things to see and do, it’s advisable to put a bit of pre-planning into action first. The open top sightseeing bus is a good idea, because this helps you see a lot in a short space of time, and also saves your poor feet! There are several routes you can take, so simply check out the one which visits your areas of interest.
5. A spot of fresh country air
The countryside lurks so close to major cities that within half an hour you may forget you were ever in the middle of a bustling metropolis. Scotland’s highlands are simply stunning and pure nature at its best, as well as the valleys of Wales, and Snowdonia. Alternatively, the Peak District in England is extremely popular for walkers. You’ll find lots of outdoor activities to enjoy around the UK, such as bungee jumping, sailing, fishing, walking, hiking, climbing, sailing, abseiling, and even skydiving.
