Miami Beach: Curfew & Causeway Closures Beginning Tonight

The City of Miami Beach declares a State of Emergency.

Miami Beach Interim Director Raul J. Aguila has declared a state of emergency in the city in light of the Miami Beach Police Department's major concerns regarding the spring break crowds that are expected to be too large.


In response to the emergency, and in order to protect the public health, safety and well-being of residents and visitors, the interim city manager intends to implement the following emergency measures immediately. Is Miami Beach open now?:


1- As of 8 p.m. A curfew will be imposed tonight in the area bordered by 5th Street in the south, 16th Street in the north, Pennsylvania Avenue in the west, and Ocean Drive to the east ("high impact zone").


2- The eastern lanes on The Julia Tatl Causeway Road will be completely closed to traffic from 9 pm. I'm not going to do that.


3- All sidewalk café operations, including extended outdoor restaurant seats in the high-impact area, should be suspended from 7 pm. Tonight (in accordance with the city's high-impact law), all sidewalk café operators are instructed to stack or remove tables and chairs no later than 8 pm. Tonight.


4- Eastbound lanes on the Venice Bridge will be completely closed to traffic from 9 pm. Until 6 a.m., except the residents of the city.


5- The eastern lanes on MacArthur Causeway road must be closed to traffic from 9 pm. Until 6 a.m., except for city residents, city hotel guests and business employees in the city.


6- As of 8 p.m. Tonight, Ocean Drive will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, except for city residents, city hotel guests and business staff. 


7- Restaurants in the High Impact Area can remain open until 12 am for delivery services only.

The city strongly urges all companies in the high-impact area to voluntarily close during the state of emergency.

The mayor called an emergency meeting of the city committee tomorrow, March 21, 2021, at 3 p.m. This state of emergency is declared and the measures provided separate from, in addition to the emergency measures currently in force in the case of the COVID-19 epidemic. The previous procedures must be valid for up to 72 hours unless the mayor and the city commission decide otherwise.
